Yamunanagar: An Army soldier is missing in the Yamuna after a motorboat capsized during a training exercise in Hathnikund barrage in Haryana’s Yamunanagar district Tuesday.Four soldiers were swept away in Yamuna’s strong current, three of whom managed to swim to safety. The fourth soldier was yet to be traced at the time of filing this story. Authorities have not provided his identity or other details, and Army has not yet issued any statement.Sources said the motorboat was deployed in the upstream area of Hathnikund barrage when it developed a technical glitch and began sinking. All four soldiers who were on it had their life jackets on when they were swept towards Western Yamuna Canal by swift currents. They began swimming towards the shore.When officials realised one soldier had not made it out, alarm was raised and rescuers were deployed. A police team from Pratap Nagar joined the search. The submerged motorboat has been recovered.“On our request, irrigation and water resources department reduced the flow of water in Western Yamuna Canal from Hathnikund barrage. We have also requested the district administration to send an NDRF team to carry out the search,” said Pratap Nagar SHO Rohtas Kumar.
