DM orders salary freeze for BLOs over delays in election work

Ghaziabad: District election officer Ravindra Kumar Mandar has warned that the salary of booth-level officers (BLOs) who fail to complete election-related work within the deadline will be withheld.During a review meeting on Monday to assess the progress of door-to-door surveys (DSE), Mandar noted that several BLOs were lagging and directed all officials and employees concerned to ensure the pending work was completed within the stipulated timeframe.“The BLOs are primarily the school teachers and several census related work was ongoing. There is no deadline for the completion of the work but as Ghaziabad was lagging behind the other districts the decision was taken,” an official said.DSE work involves the identification and verification of electoral-roll entries relating to dead, shifted and duplicate voters. BLOs are responsible for verifying such entries and helping ensure that electoral rolls remain accurate and updated. The meeting also reviewed work related to Forms 6, 7 and 8, key components of the voter registration and electoral-roll revision process. Form 6 is used by an eligible person to apply for inclusion of their name in the electoral roll, including applications from new voters. Form 7 is used to file an objection to an entry or seek deletion of a name, including cases involving a deceased voter, a person who has shifted residence or a duplicate entry. Form 8 is used by an existing elector to correct entries in the roll and make other prescribed changes, including shifting of residence and replacement or correction of an Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC), as applicable.Mandar directed officials to prioritise election-related duties and complete all assigned work in a time-bound manner ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. The administration’s salary-related directive is aimed at ensuring accountability among BLOs and preventing delays in the electoral-roll revision process. The review meeting was attended by additional DM (land acquisition), city magistrate, SDM Sadar and Modinagar.
