Gorakhpur: Four masked men allegedly stormed a house in Tighra village under the Pipiganj police station area late Monday night and looted gold and silver jewellery worth around Rs 5 lakh after holding a nine-month-old infant at knifepoint.According to police, the accused entered the house through an open rear gate around 1 am. At the time, Pooja, wife of Karan Gupta, had come downstairs carrying her nine-month-old daughter. The intruders allegedly snatched the baby from her arms and placed a sharp-edged knife on the child’s throat, warning the family against raising an alarm.Fearing for her daughter’s life, Pooja opened the room and handed over jewellery kept in an almirah and boxes. The robbers also forced her to remove the earrings, nose pin and mangalsutra she was wearing before fleeing with the valuables.Police have registered a case against unidentified accused and launched a probe. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined, while raids are being conducted at suspected hideouts to identify and arrest the culprits.
