New Delhi: Delhi govt is conducting a probe into the death of a 12-year-old student. The girl died on Aug 27, with her family alleging Monday that she had been scolded and beaten up on July 22 by a teacher at the Delhi govt school she used to study in, resulting in her falling ill and her condition deteriorating.The teacher has been transferred with immediate effect to ensure that the investigation is conducted fairly and without any interference, education minister Ashish Sood said.The Class VII student used to suffer from epilepsy, police said. They said that no complaint against the teacher was made during the nearly 40-day period between the alleged incident at the school in East Vinodnagar and the girl’s death, adding that her family cremated her the same day she died and made a call to east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri police station with the allegations only on Monday.On July 22, the girl was allegedly scolded by the teacher for not bringing a book and was asked to stand at the back of the classroom, the family claimed. She was reportedly unwell at the time. The family, which was called to school, took her home. Only later was she taken to hospital.The girl’s mother alleged that her daughter was “distressed” following the incident. “My daughter was tortured in class, leading to her depression. No one from the school came to see her when she was unwell,” she said.Police are examining these allegations, the sequence of events following the alleged incident at school, the girl’s medical records and the course of treatment.Sood said, “Govt is treating this matter with utmost seriousness and sensitivity. If the inquiry establishes any negligence, dereliction of duty or irregularity at any level, strict and decisive action will be taken against those found responsible.”According to an official, Delhi education director met the principal of the school regarding the matter.BJP MLA from Patparganj Assembly constituency Ravindra Singh Negi said, “The family has alleged that when the child had fallen ill, she was not rushed to hospital. Instead, the parents were first called to school. We have assured the family that an administrative investigation will be undertaken alongside a police probe. The family has also said the child was unwell and her medical certificate had been submitted to the school. She also took several days off in the past few months because of her condition. So, why was she not rushed to hospital immediately?”
