Gurgaon: The city is likely to see a prolonged spell of rain this week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate showers from Tuesday and increasing rainfall activity through Sept 5.According to the Meteorological Centre Chandigarh, light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places in Gurgaon on Tuesday, along with Nuh, Palwal and Faridabad. On Wednesday, the same belt is likely to receive rain at a few places.Rainfall activity is expected to intensify from Thursday, when light to moderate showers are forecast in many places across Gurgaon, Nuh, Palwal and Faridabad. The same pattern is likely to continue on Friday.IMD has, however, not issued a heavy rain warning for Gurgaon at any point in its current seven-day outlook.For Saturday, IMD’s statewide outlook indicates rain at many places across Haryana, while activity is expected to ease to a few places on Sunday. No district-level warning has been issued for these two days yet.The statewide forecast indicates that the wettest phase of the week is likely to be Sept 3 to 5, when rainfall activity is expected to be fairly widespread across Haryana. IMD has also forecast isolated heavy rain over Haryana from Sept 1 to 5, along with increasing thunderstorm and lightning activity, reaching many places on Sept 4 and 5.The forecast is being influenced by two weather systems. A cyclonic circulation associated with a western disturbance lies over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu division at about 5.8km above mean sea level.At lower levels, the monsoon trough is running through Amritsar, Patiala, Najibabad and Basti and extends towards a well-marked low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and the adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal.The combination of these systems is expected to keep moisture-laden conditions over Haryana during the first half of the week, supporting repeated spells of rain across the city and adjoining districts.
