Boy falls down Alwar borewell, rescue efforts on

Alwar: A 9-year-old boy fell down an open borewell in Alwar district Monday and ended up getting trapped almost 55ft underground, triggering an intense rescue effort led by police and the local administration and involving heavy earthmoving equipment.According to the latest reports, the boy is presumed safe as his voice is still being heard from inside the deep well.The incident occurred in Bantoli village under Lakshmangarh police station area when the boy was chasing a kite through an uncultivated field. Local villagers said people had no idea of the well’s existence at the spot because it remained unused for a long time and had been closed over with a heavy stone.Police and civil administration officials reached the spot soon after the incident to supervise rescue efforts. Two earthmovers were pressed into service to try and reach the boy by digging around the well from adjacent sides.As news of the incident spread, a large number of villagers gathered at the site. Ramgarh MLA Sukhwant Singh was among those who arrived to take stock of the situation.Officials said all efforts were being made to rescue the child safely.
