Mumbai: Four days after attempting suicide at Sion railway station, a 28-year-old medical officer serving in Satara’s Phaltan died at Sion Hospital on Monday. While the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear, BMC Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (BMC-MARD) stated that Dr Rajendra Rupnavar (the deceased) faced alleged workplace harassment and undue external or political pressure.Dadar Govt Railway Police (GRP) is in the process of registering an FIR for ‘abetment of suicide’, based on a complaint given by Rupnavar’s family. The case will be transferred to Phaltan for further investigation.On Aug 27, Rupnavar had climbed a telecom tower and attempted to hang himself at Sion railway station around 7.45 am. Someone informed the GRP who summoned the fire brigade. Despite repeated appeals by the police, he refused to come down from the tower and tied a noose around his neck. Firefighters soon brought him down and rushed him to Sion Hospital.Last year, a 28-year-old medical officer at the Phaltan Sub-District Hospital died by suicide after being repeatedly raped by a police sub-inspector.Need help?
