New Delhi: Neglected spaces beneath Delhi’s flyovers and along major roads are set for a makeover under a public-private partnership initiative, with Delhi govt signing MoUs with private firms for the beautification and maintenance of selected stretches across the city.The agreements were signed by Public Works Department (PWD) Monday in the presence of chief minister Rekha Gupta.Under the initiative, a 2.5-km stretch from Deepali to Mangolpuri Market beneath a flyover will be developed into a clean and green community space. As part of the project, undertaken by a private firm, the stretch will be fenced and landscaped with native plants, grass, shrubs and flowering species. Environment-themed murals will also be painted on 61 flyover pillars, covering around 5,100 sq m.In a separate CSR initiative, another private firm will develop and maintain about two acres of green belt along Mathura Road and MP Road. The sites currently face issues such as garbage dumping, roadside encroachments, unauthorised settlements and unplanned usage. The redevelopment plan includes plantation, landscaped greens, walkways and improved lighting.Chief minister Rekha Gupta said public-private partnerships could help transform underutilised spaces into safer, attractive and environment-friendly areas.PWD minister Parvesh Verma said the govt was working to beautify spaces around flyovers and major roads in line with the chief minister’s vision and would encourage more such partnerships across Delhi.
