Guwahati: Assam Cabinet has approved a Rs 50,000-crore package for capital-intensive projects over the next five years, with a focus on primary healthcare, schools, Anganwadi centres, housing for tea garden workers, roads, power networks and anti-flood embankments across the state, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.The investment plan, under Viksit Assam: Infra Vision, will be funded from the state’s own resources, with additional funding expected from NABARD and various schemes of the central govt, Sarma said during a post-Cabinet media briefing.“The cabinet has approved a package worth Rs 50,000 crore to boost various capital-intensive projects in the state. Funds will be raised from our own resources, and we will also seek some amount from NABARD. We also hope to receive funds from various schemes of the central govt,” he said.The money will be spent primarily on strengthening primary healthcare, schools, Anganwadi centres, housing for tea garden workers, and road and power networks across Assam.“This package will also see the construction of women’s markets and women’s hostels, as well as the strengthening of our industrial estates. A portion of the amount will also be spent on strengthening anti-flood embankments in various parts of the state,” Sarma said.The cabinet, chaired by Sarma at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur, also approved several other proposals, including the development of an integrated 30 MW solar project and a 25 MW/100 MWh Battery Energy Storage System at Rakhyasini Jungle Block under Matia revenue circle in Goalpara district.It approved the allotment of 1,174 bighas of land in Kamrup (Metro) and Nagaon districts to Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises Department for developing industrial estates and land banks.The cabinet also cleared the allotment of 27 bighas of govt land at Rangajan Gaon in Dhemaji district for establishing a milk project. It approved a proposal by Fermbox Bio Private Limited to set up a Rs 300-crore project at Tezpur.The cabinet extended the one-time window under the SOP valuation mechanism for determining the market value of tea gardens or tea lands to calculate stamp duty and registration fees for conveyance deeds.It also approved Rs 109 crore under SOPD-G for 2026–27 to complete key infrastructure projects at Gauhati University. These include a multidisciplinary academic building (RCC G+5), an international students’ hostel (RCC G+4), a 250-capacity boys’ hostel (RCC G+3) with a mess block, and 24 Grade-D staff quarters.The cabinet approved subsidised rates for masur dal and sugar for NFSA ration-card holders — Rs 70 per kg for masur dal and Rs 35 per kg for sugar.Orunodoi beneficiaries in flood-affected Sivasagar and Charaideo will be entitled to Rs 2,000 this month, while beneficiaries in other districts will receive Rs 1,200.Financial incentives under the CM’s Jibon Prerana Scheme and the CM-FLIGHT Scheme will be disbursed from Sept 1. The cabinet also decided that the state govt will provide Rs 15,000 to the remaining flood-affected families on Sept 1.
