Two misuse 15 credit cards, dupe duo of ₹24L in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: A man and his brother-in-law were allegedly cheated out of nearly Rs 24 lakh by two persons owning mobile shops. The accused allegedly got 15 credit cards issued using documents of the duo. They swiped the cards for Rs 5 lakh and siphoned off Rs 19 lakh through bank transactions, according to a complaint filed with Vastrapur on Sunday.The complainant, from Godhra, said he has known one of the accused since 2018 when he bought mobile phones from her shop near Gulab Tower in Ghatlodia. In 2024, this woman, along with the other accused, opened another mobile shop, where the complainant would regularly meet them.The two accused, telling the complainant they could arrange loans and credit cards from different banks and finance companies, sought copies of his documents.Between 2024 and May 2026, the two accused got around 15 credit cards issued in his name and used them, incurring expenses of about Rs 5 lakh. The complainant further alleged that around 10 credit cards remained with the accused. He has since blocked the cards.The complaint further states that between April 13 and Aug 29, 2025, the accused allegedly sought money citing financial requirements and received Rs 6,00,501 through multiple bank transactions.The complainant’s brother-in-law, a 45-year-old govt employee, later told him about the alleged transactions. The accused also arranged a mortgage loan of Rs 22.7 lakh against the brother-in-law’s house in Aug 2025. After Rs 4.6 lakh was used towards credit card instalments, Rs 17.01 lakh was credited to his brother-in-law’s bank account.Of this, around Rs 13 lakh was allegedly transferred to different accounts at the request of the accused. The complaint alleges that between April 13, 2025, and May 25, 2026, the duo obtained a total of Rs 19 lakh.
