Alwar: Bharatpur Police have arrested a 35-year-old man carrying a Rs 5,000 reward for allegedly keeping a retired education officer under digital arrest for 165 days and getting Rs 66 lakh transferred from him.Bharatpur Cyber Police Station arrested Ompal, a resident of Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh, Sunday. Three other accused, Bhupendra Yadav, Farukh Ahmad Pari and Sandeep Matra, have already been arrested.SP Rajesh Meena said the retired education officer lodged a complaint at the cyber police station on Feb 2, 2026. According to the complaint, he received a call from an unknown number on Aug 17, 2025. The callers gradually obtained his Aadhaar details and other documents.The accused later claimed to be ATS officers and told him they had caught a criminal from whom his documents had been recovered. They allegedly threatened him with arrest and pressured him to share his bank account details, saying the money in his account had to be verified.When he refused, the accused allegedly kept him under digital arrest for 165 days by invoking the Supreme Court and threatening him with arrest, Meena said.During this period, the victim transferred Rs 66 lakh in three instalments of Rs 22 lakh, Rs 35 lakh and Rs 6 lakh.In Jan 2026, the victim read a newspaper report about digital arrest. He began questioning the callers, realised he had been cheated and subsequently lodged the complaint, police said.A special police team then tracked bank transactions and call details. The investigation found that Ompal had opened a bank account using a fake construction firm. Police said Rs 22 lakh transferred by the victim was withdrawn in cash from the account.Ompal is being questioned and the investigation is underway to identify other members of the gang, police said.
