New Delhi: With around 26 heads of states and govts expected in the capital for the BRICS Leaders’ Summit next month, Delhi Traffic Police have begun putting the final pieces in place for the high-security event, including detailed VVIP routes, road repairs and real-time traffic updates through navigation and ride-hailing platforms.The 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit is scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, from Sept 11 to 14. Ten hotels have been designated to accommodate the visiting dignitaries, with traffic police preparing route plans connecting Indira Gandhi International Airport, the hotels and the summit venue.The police have also prepared a comprehensive traffic advisory detailing restrictions, diversions and alternate routes for the public. The advisory has been submitted for approval and publication and is intended to give commuters advance information about likely changes in traffic movement during the summit. Rehearsal could begin from Sept 1.To ensure that route restrictions and diversions are reflected in real-time, traffic police have held coordination meetings with representatives of navigation and cab apps. The platforms are expected to disseminate information on restrictions, diversions and alternate routes to commuters during the summit.Traffic police are also coordinating with agencies including Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Delhi Transport Corporation, Delhi Police PRO, app-based taxi operators, National Zoological Park and DCP/Communication for traffic management, public awareness and logistical support.Additional CP Traffic Dinesh Kumar Gupta said, “Regular inter-agency meetings are being held to review the preparations and resolve pending issues. The overall preparedness is at an advanced stage, with arrangements being monitored and reviewed regularly.”Additionally, traffic police have also sought road repairs and restoration from civic and infrastructure agencies. Requests have been made to NDMC, PWD, DMRC and other agencies to address deficiencies and improve roads along important routes and other critical stretches before the summit.
