Jewellery worth lakhs stolen from BJP neta’s house during Raksha Bandhan

Lucknow: Thieves broke into the locked house of a local BJP functionary in Mohanlalganj and decamped with cash and gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs of rupees while the family was away celebrating Raksha Bandhan.Police said Vimlesh Sharma, a BJP functionary associated with the Mohanlalganj unit, lives near Phulwariya Turn. According to her complaint, thieves broke the lock of the main gate and then forced open a room before ransacking an almirah and boxes containing jewellery and cash.Sharma, a resident of Jyoti Nagar Road in Mohanlalganj, had left for her maternal aunt’s house on Aug 28 along with her mother, son and daughter-in-law to celebrate Raksha Bandhan.The burglary came to light the next morning when a neighbour called Sharma and informed her that the house appeared to have been broken into. She returned with her family and found the locks broken and household belongings scattered inside.In her complaint, Sharma alleged that the thieves stole Rs 50,000 in cash along with gold and silver jewellery belonging to her son and daughter-in-law.The stolen items reportedly include a gold necklace, earrings, chain, three rings, a maang tikka, mangalsutra, gold locket and other valuables. Police are assessing the total value of the stolen property.Mohanlalganj police station in charge inspector Rambabu inspected the house and summoned the dog squad and forensic field unit to collect evidence.Police said CCTV footage from nearby houses and commercial establishments is being examined to identify the suspects.
