Kolkata: Light to moderate rain is likely across south Bengal with possibility of heavy rain at one or two places in South 24 Parganas on Sunday under the impact of a low-pressure, said Met office. East and West Midnapore, Bankura, Jhargram and Howrah may also get rain. Thunderstorm and lightning could strike these districts in next 48 hours.Kolkata may receive sporadic showers on Monday and Tuesday. “There is a possibility of a spell of heavy shower in Kolkata on Tuesday. But the coastal areas, especially in Midnapore, will receive heavier and more consistent rain. The major impact of the low-pressure will be felt in north Odisha,” said deputy director-general of meteorology HR Biswas.A bulletin issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre on Saturday said a low-pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bengal-north Odisha coasts on Saturday morning. It is likely to become more marked and move west-northwestwards across north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal over the next 48 hours, said the bulletin.On Saturday, Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 33.6°C and received 13 mm of rain. Parts of south and central Kolkata were lashed by a spell of heavy downpour on Saturday afternoon.
