Pune: In an initiative aimed at helping juveniles in conflict with law stay away from crime and reintegrate into society, the Pune city police organised a trekking and counselling programme for 50 such children at Sinhagad Fort.The programme was conducted under the guidance of deputy commissioner of police (zone III) Sagar Kawade and under the supervision of assistant commissioner of police (Sinhagad division) Vijay Kumbhar. During the visit, police officers interacted with the children and counselled them on the importance of education, career opportunities and family values. “They also explained how involvement in criminal activities could adversely affect their future and encouraged them to lead responsible lives,” DCP Kawade said. He said the initiative was aimed not merely at enforcing the law but also at supporting the rehabilitation and personality development of juveniles in conflict with law. “The children were also sensitised to the harmful effects of substance abuse,” he said.
