CBSE postpones CTET, reopens application window till Sep 1

Ahmedabad: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed the 22nd edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), which was scheduled for Sep 6, and reopened the online application portal following a recent Supreme Court directive.Eligible candidates can now apply online until Sep 1. The board will announce a revised examination date after the registration process concludes. Sources said the examination may be conducted over two days this time in view of an expected surge in applications. The move follows the Supreme Court’s direction that eligible teachers across the country should be given a sufficient and reasonable opportunity to obtain the mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualification. Candidates who completed their applications and paid the prescribed fee during the earlier registration window need not apply again, as their applications will remain valid. The court ruling has also made it mandatory for in-service primary school teachers nationwide to clear TET by Aug 31, 2028, to continue in service or become eligible for promotion, subject to applicable conditions. The application fee for general category candidates is Rs 1,000 for one paper and Rs 1,200 for both papers. Candidates from reserved categories must pay Rs 500 for one paper and Rs 600 for both. To qualify, general category candidates must score at least 90 marks out of 150, while reserved category candidates need a minimum of 82 marks.
