Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is set to withdraw the 10% water cut which was implemented during the extreme summer following diminishing water levels in the dam. After Morbe dam received 93% stock with the catchment area’s current season rainfall of over 3,100 mm, the decision to withdraw the cut was taken at a meeting chaired by city mayor Sujata Patil. She announced that the current water cut was being cancelled from Gokulashtami so that citizens, especially women, did not face problems during the upcoming festival. The cut had been introduced across the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation area as summer demand rose against limited stock, and the civic body reviewed the situation after the dam’s storage improved. Officials said the decision applied to the entire municipal corporation supply network drawing water from Morbe dam. The 10% reduction had affected daily supply schedules for several nodes, and residents had adjusted usage in response to the curtailed distribution. With the dam stock now reported at 93% for the monsoon season, the municipal corporation decided to restore normal supply levels from the announced date. Patil said that even if the water cut was cancelled, citizens should avoid wasting water and use water sparingly and responsibly. She appealed to the Ganeshotsav Mandals to convey the message of water conservation as effectively as possible through various means during the festival.Civic officials said water availability depended on responsible consumption and storage levels, and urged residents to continue conservation practices despite the withdrawal of the cut. They said the civic body would monitor supply and demand as the festive season approached and would coordinate with local organisers on public messaging. Residents have expressed happiness over the announcement of the restoration of full supply. The municipal corporation had implemented the reduction as a precautionary measure during summer, when demand typically increases across households and public activities. With improved storage at Morbe dam during the monsoon, the civic body moved to ease restrictions while maintaining an emphasis on careful use of water. The announcement came ahead of Gokulashtami and in the run-up to Ganeshotsav-related activities in the city.
