UP Board urges classes IX–XII students to get APAAR ID for registrations, exams

Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath govt is stepping up efforts to link students’ academic progression with a secure digital identity, as Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education has asked students of Classes IX to XII to obtain an APAAR ID and mention it in advance registration and examination application forms.APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) is a 12-digit permanent student identifier aligned with the ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ framework. Officials say it is aimed at creating a transparent, technology-driven system for maintaining academic records from school through higher education in a secure and organised manner.Additional chief secretary, secondary education, Parth Sarathi Sen Sharma said Board is currently conducting advance registration for Classes IX and XI and processing examination forms for Classes X and XII. Promoting APAAR during this process, he said, will help keep student data transparent, error-free and secure.Through APAAR, academic credits and report cards can be maintained at a single digital location. Mark sheets, transfer certificates and other documents can also be stored on DigiLocker, reducing the risk of loss of or damage to crucial paperwork over time.Board said APAAR can also support smoother delivery of scholarships, welfare schemes and education-linked benefits by enabling verification through accurate records, while helping integrate student data into the broader digital education ecosystem.Board secretary Bhagwati Singh clarified that providing APAAR details in forms is not mandatory. However, he urged principals, teachers and parents to create APAAR IDs in students’ interest and enter them in forms. He added that IDs will be generated with parental consent, and principals have been asked to work toward full coverage before the advance registration deadline.
