Varanasi: Women travelling in urban transport buses across UP will be allowed to travel free of cost on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, following an announcement by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. One co-passenger accompanying each woman will also be allowed to travel free of charge.Under the decision, women travelling in urban buses operated under the Urban Development department will not have to pay any fare during the specified period. One accompanying passenger will also be eligible for free travel. The move is aimed at facilitating the travel of women visiting their parental homes for Raksha Bandhan without the burden of travel expenses or inconvenience. It is expected to particularly benefit sisters travelling to meet their brothers and tie rakhi.According to the govt order, the free travel facility will be available from the morning of August 27 until midnight on August 29.The arrangement is expected to ease the rush and facilitate travel before and after the festival, while ensuring a smoother journey for women passengers travelling for Raksha Bandhan.
