Pune: Daund police on Tuesday arrested five men on charges of assaulting five people, including two women, following an argument over a motorcycle brushing against the complainant’s car.The incident happened near a hospital in Daund on Monday when the 20-year-old complainant was taking his mother for a medical check-up. The accused allegedly assaulted the complainant’s mother and grandmother, while his two cousins sustained severe head injuries after being attacked with a sharp weapon and hockey sticks.The accused, Ashfaq Sayyad, and his four accomplices have been arrested under Sections 109 (attempt to murder), 115, 118 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons and means), 189, 190 and 191 (rioting) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Sayyad runs a food stall in Daund.An officer from the Daund police said that on Monday, when the complainant was parking his car near the hospital, Sayyad’s employee allegedly dashed his motorcycle against the car. The employee admitted fault and called Sayyad so that he could pay for the damages. “Sayyad reached the spot and refused to pay for the damages. He slapped the complainant and his cousin and banged the former’s head against the car’s bonnet,” the officer said.He said Sayyad also pushed the complainant’s ill mother. As she started feeling uneasy, the complainant began taking her towards the hospital. Sayyad allegedly blocked their way and prevented them from leaving. The complainant managed to take his mother inside the hospital. Around 10 minutes later, Sayyad and his four accomplices reached the hospital and allegedly assaulted the complainant’s two cousins with sharp weapons and hockey sticks. They also allegedly pushed his grandmother and mother again. “The complainant’s cousins sustained severe injuries in the attack. We have arrested the accused. Our investigation is underway,” the officer said.
