Jewar farmers seek jobs at Noida airport, meet YEIDA CEO

Noida: Several farmers who gave up land for the Noida International Airport project met Yamuna Authority CEO RK Singh on Monday, pressing for permanent employment for their children directly with the airport concessionaire, Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, rather than through third-party contractors.The meeting followed a protest at the airport site on Saturday. Authority officials said they have reached out and invited them for talks at the Greater Noida office.“We protested because the promises made to us are not being fulfilled. The officials heard our grievances and assured us they will be addressed,” said Chand Mohammad, from Nangla Shareef village.Singh said the matter was under discussion. “I spoke to them and they are satisfied. The matter is under discussion with YIAPL,” he said.Under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, govts are required to provide skill training and employment opportunities or full compensation to families affected by land acquisition. Of those displaced in the first two phases, 334 families opted for employment over monetary compensation.A total of 1,334 hectares of land was acquired across several villages in the Jewar region for the first phase of the airport project, and 1,365 hectares in the second. A further 2,053 hectares are to be acquired in the third and fourth phases.
