Jaipur: Jaipur Development Authority’ enforcement wing has sealed 29 coaching and educational premises on Gopalpura Bypass Road as the state govt prepares to submit its compliance affidavit Thursday before the Supreme Court-appointed amicus curiae. Officials said notices had been issued to 63 of the nearly 200 big and small institutions operating along the road over the past two weeks. The enforcement action covered coaching centres, libraries and a gym found violating norms. The status report prepared till Wednesday records 12 fresh seizures that day. “Although the process of sealing will continue, we have compiled the status up to Wednesday to submit the compliance affidavit. On Wednesday, we seized as many as 12 establishments. We would recover the cost incurred to seal the property from the owners of the institutions,” said DIG, enforcement wing, Anand Sharma. JDA is, however, proceeding selectively, keeping students’ academic interests in mind. Coaching centres operating in unsafe conditions, particularly those functioning from basements, have been prioritised for sealing. Officials said several affected institutes have multiple branches and could shift enrolled students to other locations. “We came to know that several students from district towns and villages are studying in smaller coaching centres and their competitive examinations are due from November. Let the court give fresh directives on the next date,” said an official. The matter is listed for hearing on Sept 5. On Aug 5, a Supreme Court bench of Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and R Mahadevan had flagged inconvenience caused to residents by coaching institutes and other commercial activities operating from commercial and residential zones in the area, prompting the enforcement drive.
