Mumbai: CJP convener Abhijit Dipke’s visits to govt and local body-run schools highlighting their poor infrastructure and quality of learning have forced chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to step in.At the Monday cabinet meeting, the issue was discussed in detail with several ministers complaining that adequate funds were not available to carry out repairs. School education minister Dada Bhuse, though, maintained that very few schools were in a bad state and it was these schools that were being highlighted.Fadnavis then directed that the guardian ministers of respective districts along with local MLAs must monitor the repair work and ensure quality. In order to ensure there is no paucity of funds, Fadnavis instructed that District Planning Committee (DPC) funds be utilised for the purpose.Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde too held a review meeting with ministers from his party and instructed that 15% of DPC funds be allocated for school repair work instead of the current 5%.Mumbai suburban guardian minister Ashish Shelar has already called for filling up of posts of education inspectors who are responsible for inspecting physical facilities in govt secondary schools, municipal schools, aided and unaided primary schools in the BMC area.
