Woman, 7-year-old daughter killed after ST bus mounts footpath

Rajkot: A 28-year-old woman and her seven-year-old daughter were killed after an ST bus lost control and mounted a footpath near the GSRTC bus stand in Bhavnagar on Wednesday.Another woman was injured in the accident and shifted to a hospital for treatment.The deceased were identified as Lalita Parmar and her daughter Sonia Parmar. The two were sitting on the footpath waiting for a vehicle when they were run over by the bus. They suffered critical injuries and died on the spot. The injured woman was identified as Madhu Vaghela.The accident occurred when the ST bus was leaving the bus stand for the Sihor-Tana-Varal route. The driver reportedly lost control of the bus for an unspecified reason. As the brakes failed to stop the bus in time, it veered onto the footpath at high speed before crashing into the wall of Bharucha Club.The impact triggered panic in the area, with a large crowd gathering at the spot. The accident was also captured on CCTV cameras.After being alerted, police and other emergency personnel reached the spot. The injured woman was shifted to hospital by ambulance. A crane was used to remove the damaged bus and restore traffic movement.Police sent the bodies of the mother and daughter for postmortem and launched an investigation. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the bus driver. Preliminary police investigation revealed that the deceased mother and daughter were residents of Ramdhari village in Sanosara.
