Over 70 end of life vehicles impounded in Noida, Ghaziabad

Noida//Ghaziabad: Over 70 overage vehicles were impounded and sent for scrapping in Noida and Ghaziabad over the past three days as the transport department intensified its crackdown on pollution.Under NCR rules, diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years are not allowed to ply on roads. Assistant regional transport officer (enforcement) Amit Rajan Rai said teams were formed for Ghaziabad, Noida, Bulandshahr and Hapur to take action against vehicles that had crossed these limits. In Ghaziabad, 32 vehicles were impounded and sent to a registered vehicle scrapping facility. In Gautam Budh Nagar, assistant regional transport officer Udit Narayan Pandey said 40 overage vehicles were seized, adding, “The drive will continue.”The transport department also held a meeting Tuesday with operators of registered vehicle scrapping facilities. Instructions were issued to ensure that prescribed regulations were followed, stipulated timeframes are maintained, and comprehensive records are kept.Officials said in many cases, owners moved to other districts/states while keeping their vehicles registered in Noida. Some then scrapped their vehicles at local facilities but did not complete the required legal documentation, leading to outdated official records. The department has appealed to owners to check the age and registration details of their vehicles and voluntarily scrap those that have crossed permissible limits. They have also been advised to use only authorised scrapping centres.
