Activist couple’s house ransacked, gold stolen

Panaji: The apartment of activists Sabina Martins and her husband Subhas Naik Jorge was ransacked and gold and silver ornaments stolen when the family was travelling to Coorg, Karnataka. Panaji police have registered an FIR against unidentified accused. Martins said that on returning to her flat in St Inez, Panaji, she noticed that the back door of the flat was broken open.“On checking the premises, she noticed that several articles were missing, including copper and brass vessels and lamps. The drawer of the cupboard in the bedroom had been broke opened and pouches containing four gold bangles, a silver coin and a silver sindhoor box were missing. She also noticed that four pairs of gold earrings were missing from the dressing table,” said the complaint.In another bedroom, two wooden cupboards and one steel cupboard were found ransacked and several gold ornaments including gold chains, earrings and rings were found missing.She said the stolen gold ornaments weighed approximately 100g, and the silver articles 25g.
