Kashi braces for its MP’s visit: Traffic curbs from today noon, heavy vehicles barred

Varanasi: Preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Varanasi were completed on Monday with a final security briefing and fleet rehearsal. Police and paramilitary forces reviewed the plan in the presence of SPG officials.An unprecedented force of over 1,500 women personnel will stand guard at Modi’s all-woman public meeting in his parliamentary constituency. The event will be managed by an all-woman team, with security also being handled exclusively by women police personnel. According to Police Commissioner Mohit Aggarwal, internal security, crowd regulation, and frisking of women participants will remain in the hands of women police personnel, with almost 1,000 of them deployed at the BLW ground alone. Over 500 women cops will be deployed at other strategic points.In the presence of SPG officials, Commissioner of Police Mohit Agrawal and Additional CPs Shivhari Meena and Alok Priyadarshi briefed police, paramilitary, and women personnel on the security plan. Addressing them at the public meeting venue, officials said women police will handle crowd management, frisking, and security since the event is a women’s convention.Diversions on Tuesday will be effective from 12 noon to 11 pm. Buses from Prayagraj, Sonbhadra and Mirzapur will come up to Mohansarai underpass and Mudaila trijunction. Buses from Jaunpur will be allowed up to Harhua Ring Road underpass, while buses from Ghazipur and Azamgarh will come only up to Azamgarh Ring Road underpass and return from the same venue.Heavy vehicles on Airport Road will be stopped from entering the city two hours before the PM’s arrival and diverted to Badagaon via Babatpur. Traffic restrictions and diversions will also be in place on Bhelkha Hanuman Mandir, Mudhela, Chandpur, Baulia, Lahartara, Mahmurganj, Bhikharipura, Nariya, Chitaipur, Central Jail, Bhojubir and Kali Mata Mandir roads. Inside BLW, vehicles will be stopped at Cinema Hall crossing, Central Market, Surya Sarovar, D-05 Railway Crossing, Gomti Market and Inter College Crossing.On Wednesday, traffic diversions will be in force from 6 am to 10 am. Two hours before the PM’s fleet leaves BLW, all heavy vehicles, including roadways and private buses, will be barred from entering the city from Babatpur. No entry will be allowed on Harhua overbridge. Buses from Amra Akhari underpass will not be allowed towards Bhikharipura. Buses from Chandpur and Baulia will be stopped from heading to Phulwaria. Movement of goods vehicles from Padav to Rajghat will remain suspended from 6 am to 10 am.When the PM leaves for Kashi Vishwanath temple, restrictions and diversions will take effect again on Bhelkha Hanuman Mandir, Mudhela, Chandpur, Baulia, Manduadih, Lahartara, Mahmurganj, Rathyatra, Bhikharipura, Nariya, Chitaipur, Kali Mata Mandir, Lakdihmandi, Marimai, Maldahiya, Pishachmochan, Chetganj, Amar Ujala, Visheshwarganj, Machhodari, Bhadau Chungi, Godaulia and Sonarpura roads.
