NEW DELHI: Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury on Tuesday took a swipe at the Centre after videos purportedly showing water dripping inside the new Parliament building and waterlogging outside surfaced amid heavy rain in the national capital.However, one of the videos shared by Chowdhury showing water dripping inside the Parliament building dates back to August 2024.Sharing the videos on X, Chowdhury said, “New Parliament of New India — Requires boats not votes.”BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari, however, rejected the claim and termed it “fake news”. Responding to the video on X, Bhandari said, “This video is not from Parliament! Congress is a Fake News Factory!”Heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi on Tuesday morning, triggering severe waterlogging at the AIIMS flyover loop and disrupting traffic at several stretches.Rain was reported from areas including AIIMS, Bhikaji Cama Place, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, RK Puram Sector 1 and Shanti Path. The capital remained heavily clouded after intense showers a day earlier.According to the India Meteorological Department, Delhi received heavy rainfall of 7-11 cm on Tuesday.The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky for Wednesday, with very light to light rain likely at a few places from morning to noon.The issue of waterlogging had also drawn criticism from AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj on Monday, when he targeted the BJP-led Delhi government over the city’s drainage situation.Sharing visuals from waterlogged Sadar Bazar, Bharadwaj claimed rainwater had entered shops and damaged goods, leaving traders helpless.“This scene is from Sadar Bazar, Delhi’s most famous commercial hub. Water has flooded the shops, goods are being ruined, and shopkeepers are left helpless,” Bharadwaj said.He alleged that Delhi had been witnessing widespread waterlogging since the BJP government came to power and questioned when the administration would “wake up from its slumber”.Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary and MP Randeep Singh Surjewala criticised the BJP-led Haryana government and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini over waterlogging and traffic congestion in Gurugram following heavy rainfall.(With ANI inputs)
