Gurgaon: A 23-year-old man, Sahil alias Cheeta, was arrested in connection with an abduction-for-ransom case in May. A Rs 5,000 reward had been announced for his arrest after a businessman alleged that he was abducted, assaulted and held for ransom in Udyog Vihar, with the accused demanding Rs 7 lakh.The case came to light when the victim, who runs an Ayurvedic medicine business in Udyog Vihar Phase 5, approached police alleging that he was abducted by a group of men on the evening of May 8.He told police that he was travelling on his motorcycle from his office to his house in Kapashera in Delhi when seven to eight men travelling in a car forcibly bundled him into their vehicle and assaulted him.He said they allegedly demanded Rs 7 lakh as ransom and drove him to a secluded location where he was beaten, threatened and pressured to arrange money. Following this, his brother transferred Rs 20,000 to the accused.The men later abandoned him at a deserted place and fled. Based on the complaint, a case of kidnapping, extortion and assault was registered on May 9.Police said the accused, Sahil, a resident of Badli village in Jhajjar district, had two previous cases against him, including those relating to assault, attempt to murder and offences under the Arms Act.With Sahil’s arrest, a total of 11 accused persons have been arrested in connection with the case, police said. Earlier, another 23-year-old man identified as Nitin alias Chhota, a resident of Maraut village in Jhajjar, also carrying a bounty of Rs 5,000, was held in this case in June after an encounter. The man was armed and one of his bullets allegedly struck a police officer’s bulletproof vest. A separate case under relevant sections of BNS and the Arms Act was then registered.Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway, Sandeep Turan, police spokesperson, said.
