Mumbai: Sahar police have registered an FIR against a father-son duo for allegedly assaulting a security guard, Sadik Darveshi (24), at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport late on Monday, when stopped for driving their tourist bus in the wrong direction along the restricted multi-level car parking entry gate located along Terminal 2’s internal approach road.Police have impounded the vehicle and charged Ravindra Jadhav and his son Kunal for rash driving and criminal intimidation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act.Police said they will also write to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) concerned to suspend Ravindra’s driving licence and vehicle’s permit.The incident took place around 8.30pm, when Ravindra was ferrying Haj pilgrims, who had travelled from different parts of Maharashtra to fly to Makkah, to Mumbai airport.In the police complaint, Darveshi alleged: “I got an alert from my colleague Jagannath Panigrahi, who was on duty in front of the MLCP entry gate, about the driver of a white bus trying to enter through the gate. When denied entry, Jadhav drove the vehicle over the elevated bridge in the wrong direction, endangering other vehicles and passengers, and headed towards Level P10. When I stopped the bus, Ravindra called his son, who hurled abuses and assaulted me, and even lashed me with his belt while pulling off my ID card.”Other security guards and CISF personnel rushed to his aid and caught the father-son duo before calling the police assistance number ‘100’. The duo was handed over to Sahar police.“The father-son duo was charged under MV Act Section 115 (2) which gives state governments the power to restrict or prohibit the driving of motor vehicles or specific classes of vehicles on certain roads and under the BNS for rash driving and criminal intimidation. They were served a notice and released,” said a police officer.
