GURGAON: A Gurgaon-based entrepreneur has sparked a debate over the city’s civic infrastructure after sharing a video of a waterlogged road outside his home following around an hour of rain, questioning why residents and businesses paying multiple taxes continue to face basic infrastructure problems.Dr Shivin Chaudhary, who runs an online company employing around 250 people, posted the video on Instagram and sarcastically compared the flooded street to Venice.“So, it has been raining in Gurgaon since the past one hour, and this is the condition of the road outside my house. Look at this, so beautiful. Looks so good. Right? I’m getting the Venice experience,” Chaudhary said.He then listed the taxes paid by businesses and individuals, including GST, corporate tax, income tax, road tax and GST on purchases, while questioning the quality of civic services in return.“Man, at least fix the services, right? Like, what is the excuse for this?” he said.Chaudhary also questioned whether entrepreneurs would continue operating from Gurgaon if infrastructure failed to keep pace with the taxes being paid.“Like, if you were in my place, what would you do? Won’t you think, ‘Man, let me shift to Dubai. I have an offer for a Golden Visa too. I’ll go there.’ I am a creator. I have a, you know, decent company that runs online, so we’ll run it online from there,” he said.He argued that such a move could eventually take jobs, profits and tax revenues out of the country, while also contributing to a wider brain drain.“Then we’ll take our jobs there as well, right? And shift our profits there too, then the government will get even less tax, plus the brain drain separately.”Highlighting the cost of living and property prices in the area, Chaudhary claimed that a 200-square-yard house opposite his residence had recently been sold for Rs 6 crore.“Please fix this, man. This is not okay. This is unacceptable. This is not what I want to live in,” he said.The video was shared with the caption, “Gurgaon. Every year. Every single time.”The post drew reactions from social media users, with several expressing support for Chaudhary’s frustration over waterlogging.One user commented, “The Venice experience nobody asked for.” Another wrote, “100% agree with you sir,” while others called the criticism understandable and questioned why an hour of rain should leave roads waterlogged.
