Lucknow: A state-level review of 2,562 health facilities across eight districts in Varanasi and Gorakhpur divisions has flagged gaps in infrastructure, equipment maintenance, manpower and availability of essential medicines, prompting the health department to direct officials to take corrective measures. The review, conducted from Aug 20-23 under the second phase of the State Review Mission of the National Health Mission, was followed by a divisional review meeting in Gorakhpur on Monday chaired by NHM mission director Pinky Joval. While most facilities were found to be functioning smoothly, deficiencies were identified at some locations. Joval warned that action would be taken against officials if improvements were not visible during the second phase.Joval directed officials to rationalise deployment of doctors and laboratory technicians and shift gynaecologists from non-FRU facilities to FRU centres and district women’s hospitals.
