New Delhi: In Dec 2023, a minor girl in southwest Delhi came in contact with a stranger on social media. The two started talking on the phone before the man gradually lured her into a trap — using AI to allegedly create a nude image of her, which he threatened to circulate on social media. He also allegedly extorted around Rs 1.2 lakh from her over a period.Over two and a half years later, the girl could finally summon up courage to walk into a police station and submit a written complaint about her ordeal, detailing how he started abusing and threatening her from Jan last year. In July 2025, when he met her in person, he threatened her with the image of her, she told cops.Buckling under pressure and giving in to his monetary demands, the girl started transferring the money to his bank account in small instalments. She used her mother’s account to make the payments. It was only later that her father noticed the transactions and came to know about her trauma.From the beginning of this month, the man allegedly started abusing and threatening her family members, including her father and uncle, on the phone. She also alleged that he threatened to attack her with acid if she did not comply with his demands.Last week, a case was registered at Mohan Garden police station under Sections 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 308 (extortion) of BNS, along with Section 12 of POCSO Act.Now a major, the girl is pursuing her graduation at a reputed college. Her father is a businessman.Cops quickly zeroed in on her pursuer, Ajay Dubey (25), a resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. He was previously involved in two criminal cases — one registered in Nangloi in 2020 on several charges, including criminal intimidation and culpable homicide, and another in Nihal Vihar in 2019 for trespassing and voluntarily causing hurt, police said.After registering the case, the cops began tracking Dubey. He was arrested a few days later when he came to Delhi to attend a court hearing. Police are checking whether he targeted others as well.
