Agartala: A Burmese python measuring nearly nine feet in length and weighing about 15 kg was found inside a house in Baghaichar village of Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Monday.According to police, the snake was first spotted at around 3 am at the residence of Abul Khayer near the India-Bangladesh border. Snake rescuers Asim Majumder and Lokai Dey of the Animal Aid Alliance Welfare Society reached the spot after receiving the alert and began the rescue operation early in the morning.After several hours, the rescuers secured the python without injuring it and arranged for its relocation to a forested area, they said. The rescuers said they had been working for several years to safely remove snakes from residential areas and release them into suitable habitats.“So far, we have rescued and released around 305 snakes,” Asim said.Personnel from Jatrapur police station assisted in the operation. Station house officer Prarthanath Bhowmik and sub-inspector Prasenjit Debnath provided a police vehicle to transport the rescuers and the python to Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary, Asim said.The python was later released into a suitable habitat in the sanctuary in South Tripura.The sighting of the large snake drew the attention of local residents. By Monday morning, a crowd had gathered at the local market to see the rescued python when it was brought there.
