Haryana Cong protests FIRs, arrests of youth workers in Gurgaon
Congress protests Gurugram FIRs, seeks withdrawal of cases against youth workers

Chandigarh: Haryana Congress on Monday protested in Gurgaon against FIRs, arrests and alleged police harassment of its youth and student workers following a demonstration on Aug 21. The protest was led by Pradesh Congress Committee president Rao Narendra Singh.Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to the Gurgaon police commissioner, seeking withdrawal of FIRs against Youth Congress and NSUI workers and the Gurgaon rural and urban district presidents.The party also sought independent medical examinations of workers who alleged assault in custody, preservation of CCTV footage and action against police personnel found guilty of misconduct.“Congress respects the law and democratic institutions. The right to peaceful protest and expression is a fundamental democratic right. Misuse of the police machinery to suppress political dissent will not be tolerated at any cost,” Singh said.He warned that if the govt and police failed to act, Congress would hold protests across Haryana. “Congress youth workers and students will stage democratic protests in every district of Haryana,” he said.Former state Congress president Choudhary Udaibhan, deputy leader and MLA Aftab Ahmed, MLAs BB Batra and Induraj Narwal, former ministers Karan Dalal, Jagdish Yadav, Sukhbir Kataria and Jaswant Bawal, NSUI state president Avinash Yadav and KKC state president Naresh Malik were among those present. Representatives of Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, NSUI and Seva Dal also joined the protest.
