Lucknow: Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based tools can help haematologists analyse clinical data, predict disease progression and plan treatment for complex blood disorders, experts said in All India conference for young hematologists orientation program (YHOP) at King George’s Medical University.The two-day programme brought together final-year DM clinical haematology scholars from medical institutions across the country. The training focused on machine learning algorithms, predictive models and their use in clinical decision-making and patient management.Experts said AI can help doctors identify patterns in large datasets, assess risks and support treatment planning. However, they stressed that clinical judgement must remain central to patient care.KGMU vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityananda said, “AI is becoming an important part of modern medicine. Its use in haematology can support diagnosis and treatment decisions, but doctors must ensure that technology is used responsibly and remains focused on patient care.” The programme also covered medical ethics, palliative care, patient counselling and medico-legal documentation. Senior faculty guided the scholars on communicating with families of seriously ill patients and maintaining accurate clinical records.The participants were sensitised to ethical issues related to AI and patient data, including the need to verify AI-generated predictions against clinical findings before making treatment decisions.The orientation aimed to prepare the graduating specialists for consultant-level responsibilities in govt and private hospitals. Experts said combining AI tools with clinical training and ethical decision-making would be important as technology becomes more common in specialised blood disorder care.
