Aizawl: Security personnel from Thingsai Police Station and the Assam Rifles, assisted by local Young Mizo Association (YMA) members, seized three AK‑47 rifles, four magazines and nine rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition from New Ngharchhip village in Hnahthial district near the Myanmar border early Sunday.Police said Darunga (43), a resident of Zawlpui village in Lunglei district, allegedly smuggled the weapons from Leisen village in Myanmar’s Chin State using two Chinese‑made Kenbo motorcycles. Two other suspects reportedly fled towards Myanmar. The motorcycles and two mobile phones were also confiscated.Darunga was taken to Hnahthial Police Station for interrogation. Authorities are probing whether the arms were meant for Chakma insurgent groups operating near the Mizoram‑Bangladesh border or for delivery in Aizawl.Mizoram Police have previously seized weapons in southern and western parts of the state, suspected to be linked to the Chittagong Hill Tracts‑based Chakma outfit Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti.
