FIR against Mumbai diamond merchant for Rs 98 lakh fraud
The FIR was registered recently based on a written complaint received by the police. Police are probing the case and are yet to make any arrests.

MUMBAI: BKC police on Wednesday registered a first information report (FIR) against a diamond merchant, who had an office at Bharat Diamond Bourse, for allegedly duping an NRI by selling her a lab-grown diamond created using the Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) method, worth Rs 98 lakh.The complainant, Malika Afisi from France, met the diamond merchant during her visit to India in 2023 and placed an order for a diamond. In her complaint, she said, “It took almost 14 months for Afisi to get the diamond after continuously following the diamond merchant.”However, after receiving the diamond by parcel on February 19, 2025, she discovered that it was a lab-grown diamond. She had the diamond tested at Laboratoire Français de Gemmologie, a forensic laboratory, to ascertain whether it was genuine.The FIR was registered recently based on a written complaint received by the police. Police are probing the case and are yet to make any arrests.
