MUMBAI: The BMC standing committee on Thursday deferred the controversial proposal pertaining to a Rs 25.12 lakh contract for handling of social media at the mayor’s office.The proposal was marked “not taken” without any discussion.Listed under the public relations department, the contract is for extending the social media handling services of the mayor’s office for one year, from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027. The work has been awarded to Runtime Solutions Pvt Ltd. The document states that no tender process was implemented for the contract.With the proposal listed for consideration at Thursday’s standing committee meeting, members from both the ruling party and opposition were keenly watching its proceedings. When it came up, the chairman announced that it was being “not taken”. No discussion was held on the proposal, following which the meeting took a brief tea break.Under the committee’s procedure, a proposal declared “not taken” cannot be discussed at the same meeting. The proposal is likely to return before the standing committee at a subsequent meeting.The controversy had led Tawde to write to municipal commissioner Ashwini Bhide, expressing her displeasure over the manner in which proposals concerning her office were being processed.Tawde has asked that she be informed in advance before any proposal concerning her, her office or the mayor’s residence is placed before a committee or the standing committee. She made it clear that subjects with which she has no connection should not be linked to her or her office.
