Pune: The driver of a school bus had a narrow escape on Thursday after the vehicle caught fire near Bhumkar Chowk along the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass.The driver was returning after dropping 35 students at a private English-medium school, an officer from the Pimpri Chinchwad fire brigade said. He said that around 10am on Thursday, the driver dropped the students at the school near Wakad. On his way back, he noticed smoke emanating from the dashboard of the bus. He pulled over to the side of the road and got out. “While he was calling a mechanic, the bus caught fire. He then alerted the fire brigade control room. We reached the spot and doused the fire. The bus was completely destroyed in the fire,” the officer said.
