Kalyan: In a major administrative crackdown, Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) Commissioner Abhinav Goel has suspended Ward Officer and Assistant Municipal Commissioner Jaywant Chaudhary with immediate effect for dereliction of duty and allegedly shielding rampant illegal constructions within his jurisdiction.The disciplinary action follows intense political heat after Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Pravin Darekar raised the issue of unchecked unauthorized chawls mushrooming across Chaudhary’s ward during a state legislative council session. Darekar flagged widespread illegal developments in areas including Vadavali, Mohane, Balyani, and Manda, demanding strict action against complicit civic officials.Following the legislative backlash, Commissioner Goel issued formal notices directing Chaudhary to execute immediate demolition drives and clear the unauthorized structures. However, Chaudhary allegedly defied the directives, took no enforcement measures, and indirectly protected illegal construction.According to the official suspension order, Chaudhary faces serious charges of gross negligence, inactivity in discharging duties, willful disobedience of orders issued by senior officials, and actively promoting unauthorized developments.During his suspension, Chaudhary must remain stationed at the KDMC headquarters and cannot leave the jurisdiction without prior permission. The swift move signals a stern warning to ward officers across the twin-city region against overlooking illegal constructions.
