New Delhi: After the city received 8.1mm of rainfall till 8.30am Thursday, Safdarjung crossed the long-term average rainfall of 233.1 mm for entire Aug. Safdarjung, the city’s base station, has recorded 235.3mm of rainfall so far.However, Delhi received 400.1 mm and 390.3mm of rainfall in Aug 2025 and 2024, respectively. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the city may receive rain till Monday, with rain unlikely Tuesday and Wednesday.IMD on Aug 11 rectified its Aug rainfall data for Safdarjung. Following the rectification, Safdarjung Thursday surpassed its monthly average.Several parts of the city received rain early Thursday. Safdarjung received 8.1 mm, Palam 28.4 mm, Aya Nagar 4.7 mm, and Lodhi Road 2.6 mm of rainfall till 8.30 am. Between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, no rainfall was recorded.“Very light to light rain is likely Friday, Sunday and Monday. However, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain Saturday. Rain is unlikely from Tuesday,” said a Met official. The Met department has not issued any colour-coded warning for the city for the next few days.The maximum temperature Thursday was recorded at 35.8 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal. It was 36 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The hot and humid weather caused discomfort. The heat index or feels-like temperature was recorded at 44.6 degrees Celsius at 5.30 pm.“No significant change in the maximum temperature is expected over the next few days,” said the official. It is likely to stay around 33-35 degrees Celsius over the next few days.The minimum temperature settled at 25 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal. It was 27.4 degrees Celsius the previous day. The minimum temperature is likely to remain between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius over the next two days.Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality continued to remain in the moderate category with an AQI of 110. It was 108 Wednesday. In Aug so far, the capital has witnessed four moderate air days and 16 satisfactory days.Central Pollution Control Board classifies AQI 0-50 as good, 51-100 as satisfactory and 101-200 as moderate, 201-300 as poor, 301-400 as very poor, 401-450 as severe, and 451 and above as severe plus.
