Encroached footpaths to haphazard parking: What ails Ghaziabad’s bus stands
Commuters also highlighted frequent incidents of theft and altercations, raising concerns over public safety

Ghaziabad: Residents have raised concerns over rampant encroachment and illegal activities around Kaushambi bus stand and Anand Vihar ISBT, urging authorities to act immediately to restore safety and order. They complained about unauthorised vending, illegal parking, and anti-social behaviour, saying these create serious problems for commuters and pedestrians. In a letter to the police commissioner of Ghaziabad, Pradeep Gupta, a resident of Shalimar Garden, highlighted the escalating issues that plague the transportation hub. “The ongoing problems include unauthorised vending, illegal parking, and antisocial behaviours that pose significant challenges for commuters and pedestrians alike,” said Gupta.Gupta had earlier written to the Ghaziabad police commissioner on Nov 26, last year, detailing the distressing situation where street vendors and unlicensed shops have taken over footpaths, leading to severe congestion and an unsafe environment for women and senior citizens.Commuters also highlighted frequent incidents of theft and altercations, raising concerns over public safety. “The traffic management system has deteriorated, and citizens, particularly vulnerable groups, are facing both inconvenience and insecurity,” Sanjay Singh, a resident of Sahibabad, said.Commuters emphasise the critical need for regular enforcement actions, including anti-encroachment drives and increased police presence in the area. The main issues in the area include overcrowding at bus stand entry and exit points due to illegal shops and vendors, persistent illegal parking by e-rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, and taxis, traffic congestion exacerbated by vehicles parked unlawfully on roads and a lack of essential traffic police presence, leading to unchecked illegal activities.Locals have urged authorities to take strict action, such as deploying traffic officers and installing CCTV cameras to monitor crime. They also called for immediate action to restore law and order and improve the overall safety of this vital public transport zone. The Ghaziabad police are yet to respond to the issue, even as residents await decisive action to address their concerns.
