Varanasi: Lalpur police arrested two chain-snatchers after an encounter during vehicle checking on Ring Road around 11:30 pm on Sunday night.One of the miscreants sustained a bullet injury in his leg during the encounter and was sent to Harhua Hospital for treatment.On July 17 two unidentified miscreants riding a motorcycle had allegedly snatched a gold chain from an elderly woman in Ramrepur village under Lalpur police station limits. A case was registered at Lalpur police station and a police team was formed to trace and arrest the accused.During vehicle checking on Monday, police encountered the two suspects and arrested them. The injured accused was identified as Pradyumn Mal alias Prateek (21), resident of Chiutaha, police station Chiuratal, district Gorakhpur and the other was identified as Ved Prakash Dubey alias Monty (30) resident of Gorakhpur district.Police recovered two .315-bore country-made pistols, two live cartridges, Rs 75,000 in cash, melted gold, and two mobile phones from their possession.During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed their involvement in criminal incidents in Ghazipur, Mau, and several other districts. Police are collecting details of their criminal history and further legal proceedings are underway.
