Mohali: Members of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Daily Employees Union staged a protest outside the board’s office Monday, demanding regularisation of their services and accusing the Punjab govt of failing to honour its commitment. The protesters demanded implementation of a 2022 govt notification providing for the regularisation of 8,736 unskilled employees in the education department, including about 525 daily-wage workers of the education board.Union president Raj Kumar said the board had adopted the notification and completed the required formalities, after which a seven-member committee was constituted to examine the matter. However, he alleged that despite more than four years passing, the committee had failed to reach a decision and its meetings were repeatedly being deferred.“Many employees are nearing the upper-age limit while their cases remain pending,” he said.Union general secretary Inderjit Singh said several rounds of meetings had been held with the education minister, education secretary and board management, but no concrete decision had emerged. The union warned that if the services of daily wage employees were not regularised, it would intensify its agitation in the coming days.
