FIR against 14 people in Mumbai for submitting fake birth certificates during passport application

Mumbai: Bangur Nagar Police have registered an FIR against 14 people for forging either their or their parents’ birth certificates to apply for passports.As part of the process to apply for passports, applicants have to submit copies of essential documents such as birth certificate, Aadhaar card, Pan card, parents’ birth certificate, residential proof, marriage certificate, etc., at the local police station for verification. Online scans of the documents are sent by the local police station to Special Branch II (SB II) office along with a report. For 14 applicants, the SB-II office gave instructions to verify the authenticity of their or their parents’ birth certificates from the births and deaths department of concerned municipal corporations.Accordingly, the Bangur Nagar Police made inquiries with municipal corporations of various districts and states and found that the copies of birth certificates submitted by the 14 applicants were fake. Many of these applicants are based in Bhagat Singh Nagar and Laxmi Nagar in Goregaon.
