Nalasopara: Two 17-year-old boys have been detained for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl from Palghar district last month, threatening her and circulating a video of the assault.The crime came to light after the video was released.Police said one of the accused befriended the girl on Instagram. On July 11, he messaged her saying he had an important matter to discuss and asked her to meet him. When the girl met him, she was taken to a room in a chawl in the same area, where the other teen was present.The two boys allegedly raped her and recorded the crime on their phones. They threatened to circulate the video and warned the girl that they would kill her brother if she told anyone; because of these threats the girl stayed silent.Subsequently, the boys allegedly circulated the video. On Aug 15, the girl’s maternal uncle was sent the video. He immediately went to her home and the girl finally disclosed what had happened. She then filed a police complaint.An FIR was lodged under sections 70(2), 65(1), 351(2), 351(3) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, section 66(e)(b) (violation of privacy) of Information Technology Act, and sections 4, 6, 8 and 10 of Pocso Act for gangrape, threats and circulating obscene video.
