Panaji: Revolutionary Goans MLA and president Viresh Borkar accused govt departments of colluding with land developers and hospitality firms by turning a blind eye to alleged violations along the Bambolim beach stretch. He demanded immediate action to stop encroachments and construction in Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) areas.“The Bambolim creek has been encroached upon, and the road has also been widened from 3 metres to nearly 10 metres, and there is no action. The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) and water resources department (WRD) should take suo motu action. BJP govt is giving these violators VIP treatment,” Borkar said.An inspection of road construction and a concrete retaining wall was scheduled for Monday, but officials from GCZMA and the WRD did not attend.“GCZMA and WRD did not come and this is the second time that they have not come even though the complaint was filed six months back. So it seems something fishy. The road is being slowly widened since the last inspection. This land comes under CRZ and yet a concrete wall is being constructed along the beach and debris is being dumped in the creek and along the beach,” said Glen Cabral, a local.A local fisherman said the concrete wall had been built by encroaching onto the beach, preventing fishermen from walking along the stretch during high tide. He also alleged that wastewater from the resort and nearby residential projects was being discharged into the creek.
