Youth electrocuted after flagpole touches high-tension wire in Ballia

Varanasi: A 28-year-old man died and another was critically injured after an iron flagpole came into contact with an 11,000-volt high-tension power line while they were lowering the Independence Day flag in Ballia’s Bhikharipur village on Saturday evening.Rakesh Yadav, who ran a private library near the main road along the embankment in Bhikharipur under the Narhi police station area, had organised a flag-hoisting ceremony at the premises to mark Independence Day. In the evening, he was removing the iron pipe used for the flag with the help of fellow villager Durgesh Yadav.During the process, the pipe touched the overhead high-tension wire, seriously injuring both men.Family members and villagers rushed the victims to hospital. While Rakesh died on the way, Durgesh was admitted to the district hospital.
