Chennai: A car carrying five college students crashed into the compound wall of Lok Bhavan near its main gate on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Road in Guindy in the early hours of Sunday.Police said the car, driven by a 20-year-old man from West Mambalam, was travelling from Saidapet towards the East Coast Road around 1am on Sunday. When the car took a left turn at a bend on Sardar Patel Road near the Raj Bhavan, it reportedly lost control due to high speed.The car rammed into iron barricades before crashing into the compound wall, damaging a portion of it. The driver – a student- and two of his friends suffered injuries and were taken to Saidapet Government Hospital for treatment. The students were on their way to East Coast Road (ECR) when the accident occurred, police said. The other two students escaped unhurt.According to Adyar traffic investigation police, the car belonged to the driver’s mother, who works for a private automobile company. The student had taken the car from home after informing his family that he was going out with friends.Police said breathalyser tests ruled out drunk driving. A case has been registered, and police are verifying the driver’s licence and investigating the circumstances that led to the accident.
